The Pearl

Work has begun, at last, on the narrow little strip of steep dirt on the west side of the house. The West Side Story project. Currently it’s a treacherous scrabble of rocks and weeds. We don’t go that way much, mostly because it isn’t part of our normal traffic pattern. And partly because we are less willing to risk breaking legs or arms than we were when we were younger. but the real driver for this project is the fact that erosion is about to cause our neighbour’s fence to fall into our yard.

This picture shows the template boards in place. And the general wildness. The stairs will be nice but it’s the retainment bits that will anchor to the stairs that are important. That’s all happening in the shadows of the foliage.

Currently we have the upper platform frame welded up and the next step is to build the front supports for that. The support on the left will be the main anchor point for the lower retainment. The edge of the platform frame will be the attachment point for the upper retainment.
